Conveniently located in Auckland itself, this is worth a look if you are already in the area. It is suitable for kitesurfers and windsurfers of all abilities.
The beach is sandy with the size depending on the position of the tide, and it gets really quite small at high tide. You might get a few people out here, but it's not really a touristy kind of beach so you should have enough room to launch a kite. Water temperatures are warm in the summer, approaching 30° C, and all you'll need is a pair of shorts and some sun protection.
The wind is best here during the summer months, though even then it can be a bit gusty. It is best when coming from the south-west or the west, and speeds will range between 15 and 25 knots. The water is shallow all around here, and the surface will be either flat or choppy depending on how strong the wind is blowing. It works independently of the tide, so you can pretty much roll up here any time you feel like it.
There is a large parking lot very close to the beach and you shouldn't have any trouble parking here. There are also toilets, but that's it in terms of facilities. Fortunately, you are right in Auckland anyway and this city will be able to provide everything you need.
The biggest hazards here are the trees that can be close to the shoreline at high tide and may cause problems for the kiters. You’ll also need to keep an eye out for shells on the beach, but that's really it in terms of hazards.
